World Down Syndrome Day (3/21)
Join Kern County in celebrating our Down syndrome community
Every year on March 21 (3/21), communities around the world celebrate World Down Syndrome Day — a global day dedicated to raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and celebrating individuals with Down syndrome.
Here in Kern County, we invite our entire community — schools, businesses, media, neighbors, and families — to celebrate alongside us.
World Down Syndrome Day isn’t just about awareness.
It’s about belonging.
What is World Down Syndrome Day?
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is recognized globally on March 21 because the date (3/21) represents the extra copy of chromosome 21 that causes Down syndrome.
It is a day to:
- Celebrate individuals with Down syndrome
- Promote inclusion in schools, workplaces, and communities
- Increase public understanding
- Highlight the value and contributions of people with Down syndrome
This is a day to recognize that inclusion strengthens all of us.
Why it matters in kern county
