To improve quality of life and education for people with Down syndrome
To help empower, inform, and enhance the lives of people with Down Syndrome and their support networks through programs and events created by our community.
New Life Church in Southwest Bakersfield has generously offered us the use of their facilities for our family gatherings, trainings, and Parent and Me Play Group.
When a baby is born, the first thing a parent should hear is “Congratulations!”, but all too often, when a baby is born with Down syndrome, friends and family aren’t quite sure what to say. At Kern DSN, we start with “Congratulations!” and a basket filled with love, hand knitted items from Kern County knitters, and information. If you would like to receive a basket, and have not yet, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Combining the training materials from multiple Down Syndrome organizations, Kern Down Syndrome Network has created its own training with our community’s needs in mind.
Kern DSN’s vision for Parent Partners is to support, empower, inform and enhance the lives of families receiving a prenatal or birth diagnosis of Down syndrome. If you are interested in learning more about Parent Partners, send a note to email@example.com
Once a month, families with children between the ages of 0-5 years gather to share stories, information and visit. Depending on what questions families have, we can seek out experts to visit with us at these gatherings. This event is held at New Life Church’s Southwest Campus on the corner of White Lane and Stine Avenue.
Once a month, families gather to learn from each other and from guest speakers about living a full life with Down syndrome. Topics have been related to education, health care, life and financial planning, and legislation. Our guest speakers have included Dr. Niru Madduri from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, State Council of Developmental Disabilities, Sequoia office, speech pathologists, IEP advocates and financial planners. If you have a request for speakers and training, please send a note to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
