Education, Connection, and support at every stage
KDSN Pathways is Kern Down Syndrome Network’s monthly education and support program created to help families feel more informed, connected, and confident as they navigate life with Down syndrome.
Through KDSN Pathways, families can access practical learning opportunities, developmental support, sibling connection, and community resources in one welcoming space. Each month, our programs are designed to support individuals with Down syndrome, their families, caregivers, educators, and community partners through education that is easy to understand and meaningful in everyday life.
KDSN Pathways is held on the second Saturday of each month, bringing multiple family-centered programs together on the same day to make participation easier for busy families.
Our purpose
KDSN Pathways was created to reduce barriers and increase access to education, resources, and support for families in Kern County.
Our goal is to provide culturally responsive, bilingual, and practical learning opportunities that help families better understand developmental needs, advocacy, inclusion, and available community supports. Whether a family is new to a diagnosis, learning how to navigate services, supporting siblings, or looking for guidance through the school years and beyond, KDSN Pathways is designed to meet families where they are.
We focus on Down syndrome-specific education whenever possible, while also offering supportive topics that help families build confidence, connection, and access to services.
What to Expect at KDSN pathways
KDSN Pathways brings several programs together under one umbrella so families can access support in a more organized and consistent way.
Lunch & Learn
Lunch & Learn sessions offer family-friendly education on topics that support individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan. Sessions may include guest speakers, therapists, educators, advocates, service providers, and community partners who share practical information families can use at home, at school, and in the community.
These sessions are designed for parents, caregivers, educators, professionals, and anyone who wants to better support individuals with Down syndrome.
Foundations for Growth: 0–5 Developmental Series
The Foundations for Growth: 0–5 Developmental Series supports families of babies, toddlers, and young children with Down syndrome. These sessions focus on early development, communication, sensory needs, play, feeding, social-emotional growth, and early intervention support.
This program is especially helpful for families who are newly navigating a diagnosis or looking for practical tools during the early childhood years.
Sibshops
Sibshops are supportive workshops created for siblings of individuals with Down syndrome. These sessions give siblings a space to connect with peers who understand their experience while building confidence, empathy, and connection through guided activities and conversation.
Sibshops are designed to be fun, meaningful, and supportive so siblings feel seen, valued, and included.
Kids Club & Beyond
Kids Club & Beyond is a welcoming space for children ages 5 and older to play, connect, and build friendships while parents and caregivers participate in KDSN Pathways learning sessions.
This program is designed for children who may not be participating in Sibshops or the 0–5 Developmental Series, but still need a safe, engaging, and inclusive place to be during the event.
Children will enjoy supervised activities, free play, and opportunities to socialize with peers in a supportive environment.
Designed to make participation easier
We know that families face real barriers when trying to attend programs, trainings, and support events. KDSN Pathways is designed to make participation more accessible.
KDSN Pathways offers:
Bilingual support
Spanish interpretation and bilingual materials are available so families can participate more fully and feel included.
Transportation support
Transportation assistance is available for families who need help getting to KDSN Pathways programs.
One monthly program day
By bringing multiple programs together on the same day each month, families have a more consistent and easier way to access education, support, and connection.
A welcoming environment
Families are invited to learn, ask questions, connect with others, and participate at their own comfort level.
Who can participate?
KDSN Pathways is open to families and community members who want to learn, connect, and better support individuals with Down syndrome.
This may include parents, caregivers, individuals with Down syndrome, siblings, extended family members, educators, therapists, service providers, community partners, and supporters.
You do not need to have everything figured out before attending. KDSN Pathways was created to help families feel supported as they learn and grow.
Why it matters
When families have access to clear information, trusted support, and meaningful connection, they are better prepared to advocate, make decisions, and support their loved one’s growth.
KDSN Pathways helps build a stronger community by connecting families with education, resources, and people who understand the Down syndrome journey. Together, these programs support inclusion, confidence, and lifelong learning for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Partner with kDSN Pathways
KDSN Pathways is built on collaboration and community support. We know families benefit most when trusted professionals, community organizations, educators, service providers, volunteers, donors, and family-support partners come together to share practical information, meaningful resources, and encouragement.
We welcome partnerships with individuals and organizations who want to help families better understand Down syndrome, developmental needs, advocacy, inclusion, service navigation, and community supports. Partners may support KDSN Pathways by presenting at a Lunch & Learn, sharing resources with families, helping with outreach, connecting families to services, supporting bilingual access, or collaborating on topics that meet the needs of our community.
We are especially interested in connecting with presenters and partners who can offer family-friendly, Down syndrome-specific education or practical tools that families can use at home, at school, and in everyday life.
KDSN Pathways also depends on the generosity of our community. Donations help make these programs possible by supporting family workshops, educational materials, meals, transportation support, bilingual access, and welcoming spaces for families to learn and connect.
Volunteers also play an important role in helping each event run smoothly. Volunteer support may include greeting families, helping with check-in, setting up materials, assisting with children’s or sibling activities, supporting event flow, and helping create a warm, inclusive environment for everyone who attends.
Potential partners may include therapists, educators, medical professionals, regional center partners, disability service providers, family resource organizations, mental health professionals, early intervention specialists, attorneys, financial planners, community agencies, local businesses, and individuals who care about inclusion and family support.
If you are interested in presenting, volunteering, donating, sharing resources, or collaborating with KDSN Pathways, we would love to connect with you.
